Backache is one of the most common disorders today. It is estimated that between 50% and 60% of the population will suffer from an incident of acute or long term back pain at some stage during their life. In spite of the magnitude of the problem, a simple effective cure remains elusive to modern medical science and remains limited to relief of pain, but fails to treat and correct its underlying causes. In our opinion yoga offers a simple, effective and permanent cure for this troublesome condition and effectively compliments standard medical measures.
WHAT CAUSES BACKACHE?
A vast majority of backaches are caused by muscular inefficiency and inadequate flexibility of muscles and tendons. The situation commonly arises from
Long hours in uncomfortable car seats and office chairs
Overeating and excessively rich diet
Lack of regular exercise
Deep subconscious tensions
Suppression of emotions and fears
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF A PERSON COMPLAINS OF NOT SLEEPING WELL AT NIGHT?
Experts do believe that “normal aging” brings on some changes to sleep. (Join this workshop to know more on how sleep changes with aging.) Basically, older adults tend to get sleepy earlier in the evening, and tend to sleep less deeply than when they were younger. So it’s probably not realistic to expect that as you get older, you’ll sleep as long or as soundly as when you were younger. That said, although aging by itself does change sleep, it’s also quite common for older adults to develop health problems that can cause sleep disturbances. So when your older relatives say they aren’t sleeping well, you’ll want to help them check for these. Figuring out what’s going on is always the first step in being able to improve things. And remember, getting enough good quality sleep helps maintain brain health, physical health, and mood.

Devesh Ji is an acknowledged name in the field of holistic health and spirituality here in Rishikesh. He is a young visionary, spiritual leader and social activist who was born in Allahabad. He has taught thousands of students in yoga teacher training programs over the last four years and has traveled through the world conducting workshops and retreats.
